Sergeant Benjamin Bunnell, the original Loyalist grantee here, was a member of Benedict Arnold’s American Legion. When Arnold changed sides, the one criterion for joining his Loyalist regiment was to be a deserter from George Washington’s Continental Army. The present building on the site dates from 1785. The building is part of Hardings Point Campground and is open to the public.
